Get better with numbers

Mathematics as a subject has always been present from the vedic times. We are bound to use numbers in our daily life even if we are not professionally using it. Any subject for that matter requires some numbers and letters at times in it to play around and find a solution.

Maths is a subject that builds on itself. It is just like your video games where you have to solve one round and move to the next. It is at this state that children are more engaged. They start liking the process of solving a problem when they get through all the steps without any difficulty. But when they find a bump in the process, the children tend to divert that action as hatred towards the subject. The frustration that builds in their minds makes them have the prejudice that all the problems in maths makes them feel miserable when they are not able to find the solution.

One important rule to follow while learning to solve problems is that the steps must be followed in order and the basic knowledge of the subject has to be as strong as it could be. Maths seems to be fun when you know how to tackle the numbers and you control them. This skill comes with an immense amount of practice and patience.

A few things to keep in mind to understand maths as a subject are,

  • Get your head around the concepts. There is no beating around the bush in maths. You will have to run your brain around the concepts and learn how you can understand it better and not how it has always been understood.

  • There are multiple ways to solve each problem that is given. You need to find it out by doing trial and error methods to crack that code.

  • Learn maths like it is a game. The children are attracted to animation and videos these days. Teaching them in the form they like makes it easier for them to grasp and understand the concept. Teaching in a fun and engaging way will work well with the children.

  • It is studied that breaking the complex problems into smaller simpler fragments makes it easier to comprehend.

  • To set realistic goals while solving maths will be less stressful. Children should not push themselves to learn and solve all the problems at once. One topic or a part of one topic for a day with enough practice will make them realise that the learning process can be interesting as well.

  • To master the formulae used in each concept is in itself great learning of the subject. Along with this is to learn the application of those formulae.

  • As we know, sharing things will only amplify what we have, it applies to learning as well. To learn with others will help you understand the concept better and the retaining capacity increases. There are chances that you might learn new tricks to solve the same problem.

To read, observe, understand, and write the problem is where children find difficulty. Once they master this part, there’s no one stopping them from finding the solution to any problem that arises in front of them. Practising daily is the only way to learn how to get better with numbers.
