SWOT Analysis in School

Evaluating the skills before the students step out of the school is of utmost importance which has to be done in the school. This step will make them be sure and confident of what they want to pursue with regard to their strongest skills or they will have an idea of what skills that they want to work on to make it better in their coming future. To recognize the present and future interests is like a framework that we build for ourselves and this process can be challenging to one.

What exactly is SWOT analysis?

SWOT refers to the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and the threats. To analyse these in an individual is a strategic planning technique which identifies the individual as a whole person and also provides an in-depth fact based outcome to help the individual to develop in their field of interests and choices. When this SWOT analysis is done in the school, the students’ strengths and weaknesses are understood and can be made better in all possible aspects rather than them having to face the challenges later in life when they go out of the school.

Importance of SWOT analysis

The shortcomings and a clearer picture of the set goals of the students are identified when the analysis is done. To be able to accept the challenges that come in their way and be conscious of what the strengths and weaknesses are to achieve the goals in time can be done with the help of SWOT analysis.

  • Having a clear understanding of the set goals and taking proper decisions to explore the available opportunities can be achieved.

  • This process also helps one in understanding the threats present in their way and make suitable changes in the plan to accommodate the counteracts.

  • Students find the counteracts of the threats as motivating and will start working harder to reach their goals.

  • Utilisation of the resources available to one to their best can get them to open new doors of opportunities.

  • To prioritise the goals, from the huge list, is a task but this has to be done initially so the path and mind of the student is clear as a crystal.

How to do a SWOT analysis?

1. Identify goals

To identify the goals set, one needs to focus on what the end goal is. The goal has to be realistic, achievable, and in a particular time frame. The individual, while focusing on what the end goal is, is already working on it on a regular basis. It is better to have an achievable goal instead of a long term goal that is in the distant future.

2. Identify strengths

Now that the goal is set, an individual has to write down the strengths they possess which helps them in achieving the goals. This shouldn’t be a task. If there’s any confusion then consulting a friend or family regarding it would be helpful.

3. Identify weaknesses

Along with the strengths comes the weaknesses. To be able to identify them without hindrance will make it easier to work towards the goals. If the individual is unsure, then asking a friend or mentor will be useful.

4. Identify opportunities

List down all the possible things that will enable you to work towards the goal and achieve it faster. Only those with a clear idea of what their goal is can identify them.

5. Identify threats

There can be many threats which counters your action towards achieving the goals. This could also be a set of your weaknesses. As weaknesses are the internal threats, now you have to list down the external threats. When the possible threats are identified clearly, you can work on the counteracts which helps you get closer to your goals.

6. Prioritise

Now that all SWOT tests are done you have to analyse what has to be done to achieve the goals one after the other. Reviewing the list and working on it if necessary will take you one step closer to the goal.

Uses of SWOT analysis

  • The students can understand themselves better

  • Can build their strengths

  • Try to work on the weaknesses

  • Use opportunities better

  • Counteract the threats

  • Learn time management

  • Move from one goal to another

The SWOT analysis will make the students face reality and where they stand currently in regard to their goals. When the goals are clear and there is an achievable plan, the journey towards the goals seems easy. Now start making a list like this so you can work even better to achieve those set goals without having to fear anything.
