Hobbies impacting studies
Happiness is not something that you feel after achieving but it lies in the process of achieving something. One should learn and try to not overlook it in their journey. This happiness can be in varied forms such as sports, learning something new other than the school curriculum, and by keeping a couple of hobbies alive throughout regardless of them changing. The hobbies that one takes up could be of their passion or something that interests them.
To develop a hobby is as important as learning a new subject in school. Along with the value it contains, it also encourages the students to make use of their leisure time. There are instances where one’s hobby turned out to be the profession they want to pursue. The small scale stalls and exhibitions are a few examples for the places where people who turned their hobby into their career have started to make a living by being compensated for their exceptional skills and talent.
The hobbies that one continues to follow helps them to reduce and relieve stress. At times, studying can be exhausting and that might create mind blocks to the students. Taking a break to divert the mind in doing something enjoyable could relieve the block and get the attention back to square. The unrest in the mind is one of the many reasons for poor performance in studies and to fight this, the teachers must promote the idea cultivation of hobbies in students. Engaging oneself in hobbies of one’s own interests boosts the skills they possess as they are learning a whole new concept like in school. It shouldn’t be considered as lazing away from studies but as developing a new knowledge. It helps the student in developing confidence, time management, presentation, and leadership skills. These complementary sets of skills that come along with the hobbies must be attended to for it can build one’s personality.
It is not just the friends that count but also the network you build during your early days and be socially present. This can happen over some class or just a random activity where you find people of similar interests like having conversations over a coffee, riding, pottery classes, and such. It is a given that not everyone has the same thoughts or perspectives. When you spend some quality time with them you learn how others see certain things in life, their perspective, and how they would respond to the situations. Sharing ideas and skills will enhance it by adding different aspects and angles which later turns out to be a better version of the thought which was bean sized.
To find a good hobby is also a task. If what you have chosen is not challenging you enough, then you are likely to have less fun continuing that hobby. The more challenging a hobby is, the better you perform at your academics because you will have learnt the art of solving problems and how to face it with confidence. This enhances the reasoning and analytical skills in an individual. As mentioned earlier, leisure time is being used to do something which is useful and meaningful for them. When in school you have had time to focus on your hobby while you were free but after you reach home there is no time to be free as your mind is activated and energetic after the break. You can focus on your academics without any distractions nor fall prey for unhealthy habits. Because you are interested in a certain hobby and you invest your time and energy in it only to get better at it and succeed. You find joy and happiness in doing it. In the exact same manner, your studies also need attention which you can now offer without losing it as attention span and focus has improved while you were involved in the hobby of yours.
The teacher needs to motivate the students to pick at least one hobby on which they can spend a little time on so that they can have a clear mind and enjoy doing that activity which they like. It should be well known that hobbies are nowhere harmful, instead they have a positive effect on academics and the students themselves.
