Benefits of Break During Study Hours
Studying for hours together is tiresome and surely does decreases the attention level in an individual. This could also be the same with workload piling up or deadlines that are nearing. It is studied that the break times between work or studying is beneficial for the individual’s health and the studies.
In times of the exams and tests, students are put to pressure, consciously or unconsciously, by themselves, parents or the peers. This is when the anxiety kicks in and troubles the daily life, without any warning, where the students find themselves in the state of anxiousness and restlessness.
Continuous studying leads to decreased level of retaining capacity as the studied material is not registered. When this is seen continuously, the student tends to opt for rote learning wherein they just read the materials over and over again for a greater number of times to remember. It is important to understand the chapters while studying so that it is retained for a longer period of time and there has to be no conscious energy put to remember certain topics. Taking rest or break, in various forms, without any guilt has to be normalised within students in order to get better outcome in their learning process.
Choosing what kind of a break is needed is up to the individual’s choice and that has to be respected, as long as it is not harming them mentally or physically. It could be sleeping, taking a walk, watching tv, listening to music, or exercising because it only has a positive impact on the students and their studies.
1. Improves health.
Taking a break to sleep or rest increases the immune system. Exercising for some time and sleeping to recover the lost energy is highly advantageous to the body as it reduces heart related diseases and body inflammation.

2. Stress reducer.
Chronic stress and anxiety while studying has adverse effects on both physical and mental health of an individual. Worrying will only worsen the studies and therefore to relieve the stress and to calm down taking breaks are necessary.

3. Energy booster.
It is common to lose energy after some time into studying. One might feel drained and the attention diverts constantly. To get back to the attentive state to study better a power nap or water breaks will help. 15-20 minute power nap is an instant energy booster and keeps you active for a longer time as the body has recovered from the fatigue.

4. Improves the memory.
Repeated session of studying which are short and consists of regular short break times has been the trick to memorise the topics better. This technique increases the concentration level and makes the individual to retain more as the memory is constantly restarted which helps in holding more information. The ‘Pomodoro’ technique has been the best one to adapt to which keeps the study time and resting time balanced.

5. Performance and creativity booster.
There are times where the mind is blocked and there can be no progress seen. Creative block affects the performance and the required task will have errors if continued to do with the blocks present. This is the time where break times work in benefit which clears the mind and helps it to relax. Trying to do different activity or work might also help in times like these as they might pop up new ideas in the mind which can be worked upon to get the desired outcomes.

Though there are benefits with taking breaks, it should not be the only activity done instead of studying. Break time must be fixed and must be followed without crossing the time. That will result in laziness, which again is not beneficial for the studies. Choosing what to do in the break time is also necessary as doing something which is more tiring will not help the individual to focus on the studies as their energy is all spent in some other activity. Wise choices will surely be of help either health wise or in performance aspect.
